Chair

Executive Director of Community Legal Services of Niagara South, practising lawyer with many years experience in the Social Justice field.

Jean Stewart,
Vice Chair

Jean enjoyed a long and varied career with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) until her retirement in 2006.  Jean worked in several of MTO’s program areas in both field and head office functions, the last 12 years of her career in Corporate Services Division Human Resources Branch.  During her 35 years with MTO she lived and worked in a number of MTO’s geographical locations, namely Bancroft, Ottawa, Burlington, Kingston, Toronto and then on to St Catharines in 1996 when MTO moved its Head Office to the Region. 
Jean has been involved in volunteer work for many years  During the 15 years prior to retirement, efforts were mostly focused in areas of fund rising on a one off basis e.g. Women’s Shelters. During her retirement Jean has volunteered for numerous non-profit social service agencies in the region by either doing short term human resources project work and/or sitting on Boards; she also currently sits on the Board of Directors for Information Niagara and is a member of Rotary South Club

Gail Wilson,
Secretary

As a pharmacist, Gail has been on the front line of a very important segment of patient care.  With the exception of two years in Australia, Gail was born, raised and has spent her entire life in the Niagara Region and knows it well.  Gail's affiliation with AIDS Niagara includes many years as a volunteer and a previous board member for 8 years. She served on one of the first committees of the Ontario College of Pharmacy that set guidelines for Pharmacists with respect to how to better serve HIV patients.   She has also been the President of Rotary Club, and a Quota Club member.  In addition to those achievements, Gail has been an entrepreneur both organizing and managing drug stores. 

 Tim Conway,
 Treasurer

Tim is a resident of St. Catharines who is originally from Sault Ste. Marie ON.
Tim has been employed with RBC for 10 years and is a single parent of one son who is currently attending University. 
When Tim resided in Los Angeles CA working for Washington Mutual Bank he became involved in the community helping men living with HIV/AIDS.   This included home care, hospital visits and companionship activities.  
Tim is currently involved within the RBC Aboriginal community as a mentor/leader of our Employee Resource Group and is actively involved in United Way’s Backpack Program and Allocations Committee.

Wendy Sturgeon,
Director

Wendy's entire life has been dedicated to serving unique needs of communities.  Currently the Executive Director of Niagara Chapter - Native Women Inc., her previous affiliations include St. Catharines and Area Arts Council, Studio Arts - Start Me Up Niagara, Work Action Centre - Start Me Up Niagara and she has her own consulting company.  She has worked in the capacities of:  Administrator, Facilitator, Projects Coordinator, Services Director, Public Relations Coordinator and Supervisor.  Wendy also has extensive training and certificates in areas that support the highest degree of responsible not-for-profit leadership, such as marketing, grant-writing, strategic planning and funding.  She has been, and continues to be a tireless volunteer.

AIDS Niagara, Board of Directors:
 
The Board of Directors are seeking a new Director to volunteer to assist AIDS Niagara and the Community.
 
The Board of Directors meet once a month on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 6:30 pm to approximately 8:30 pm.
 
We require that  Directors/Officers of the Board be residents of the Niagara Region and a member of AIDS Niagara ($10.00).
The purpose of the Board is to:
  • to improve the quality of life for those persons affected by HIV/AIDS.
  • to help reduce the spread of HIV.
Our Vision:
  • an educated and supportive environment for those with HIV in the Niagara Region.
  • eradication of this deadly disease.
We believe:
  • in equality of opportunity for all members of our community in accordance with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
  • in our responsibility to act with respect, dignity, caring and strict confidentiality when providing services to individuals affected by HIV.
  • in advocating for ongoing improvement in support services, education, public awareness and harm reduction, and in securing public funding to these ends.
  • in the empowerment of individuals through mutual support and collective action.
To serve on the board, an individual must acknowledge that they agree with and support AIDS Niagara's mission statement, philosophy and goals.  Board members are elected for a two-year term and are expected to attend all meetings as possible.
