Is CBD oil legal?

The question of legality is often one of the first to arise when there is something to do with CBD. With the question of whether CBD oil is legal, there is a simple answer and a complicated answer.

In simpler terms, CBD oil is legal in both the US and the UK, as well as in many other countries around the world. But, as you would probably expect, this legality is not without its bureaucracy.

UK law

It is fair to say that the UK’s law on CBD is confusing, in fact that is probably a polite way of describing it.

Most cannabinoids are listed as controlled substances in the United Kingdom. Drug abuse Act, but there is an exception for CBD, more or less.

CBD is legal in the UK, provided it is derived from an EU-approved industrial hemp strain, these are strains that contain very little THC, if any.

Of course, as with any UK law that has been annexed to the EU, this can be in complete disarray after Brexit, but as with any other aspect of Brexit, we still don’t know what that means!

All that is important to know for now is that buying CBD in the UK is completely legal as long as it is done through the right channels. Any CBD oil with a THC level below the EU maximum (0.2%) is fine to buy, so make sure you check it, but as long as you do, it’s fine.

When it comes to what you use the CBD oil for, that’s completely up to you, but when it comes to what we can tell you, things get complicated again.

While the World Health Organization has published extensive research on the possible benefits of CBD for various medical conditions, we are not allowed to tell you what has helped (to some extent) to prove it.

We can and will tell you about the research in detail in other articles on this site, but we cannot tell you directly that CBD oil can help with a particular condition. However, we also don’t have the ability to stop you from Googling the letters CBD along with a variety of health conditions and drawing your own conclusions from the many resources available.

U.S. Law

In the U.S., the laws governing whether CBD is legal are actually very similar to those in the U.K., but this is a matter of chance and can change from state to state.

CBD derived from hemp is legal in all US states. As a result of the Farm Bill signed by President Trump in 2018. As in the UK, this covered CBD products with less than 0.2% THC content.

This is the base level; no state will (or indeed can) have a stricter law than this federal position. However, as you probably know, laws are different from state to state, with legal medical herb in the states of 33 USA, AND recreational use of legal herb in the states of 10 and Washington DC.

The medicinal properties of it as a whole are treated with different attitudes in different states, and CBD oils fall into this same category. Again, this means that we are limited in what we can tell you directly, but again, we are not responsible for your Google searches.

In the future, will CBD oil still be legal?

The truth is that no one can know for sure what will happen next. But what we can know is what trend the world is moving in.

In the UK, and especially in the US, the stigma around it is beginning to disappear, and this makes it easier to consider the differences between CBD and THC.

While there will always be people who react to the word in the same way, relating everything to the stereotypes they have of the average smoker, governments and health organizations around the world are increasingly debating the plausible benefits of CBD.

The CBD industry is expected to be one of the fastest growing in the coming years, so it is fair to assume that the legality of CBD products will not diminish in the future.

At this point, all you need to keep in mind is that buying CBD oils is 100% legal in both the UK and the US. As long as you use a trusted supplier (push, touch, wink).

As long as the products you buy comply with the regulations of your country or state (which is ours, obviously), you have nothing to worry about.
